Curing insomnia is a tricky business, but it is possible. It is fortunate that insomnia has several cures. If you are suffering from a condition that makes going to sleep and sleeping soundly quite a challenge, then you just have to consult with your doctor for an effective cure. Your sleep doctor may recommend certain treatments or advice you on what to do concerning your sleeping problem based on the following factors:

- how long you have been suffering from insomnia (short - term or long-term or chronic)

- what are the causes of your insomnia

- what is your general health condition and age

Here are some of the helpful insomnia cures that may be recommended by your doctor, according to your specific condition:

1. Time - for some who are experiencing short-term insomnia, your condition may just be cured with time. If your insomnia is a result of temporary shifts in your sleep/wake cycle, like if you had jet lag, then your biological clock will just eventually go back to normal.

2. Sleep Habits that prevent insomnia occurrence - for those with mild insomnia, your condition can be relieved by establishing agreeable sleeping habits that will prevent the occurrence of insomnia. Here are some tips to promote better sleep:

- Keeping a regular schedule for going to bed and waking up every day

- Avoiding alcohol, caffeine and nicotine several hours before you go to sleep

- Avoiding exercise approximately three hours before your bedtime, but exercising about six to five hours before your bedtime can help you have a relaxed and sound sleep.

- About two hours before your bedtime, avoid eating large meals

- Taking a nap after 3:00 in the afternoon is not advisable

- Make sure that your room or sleeping are is dark and quiet with ideal temperature (not too hot or too cold).

Too little is known about these alternative methods for treating insomnia and their effects.

Furthermore, being ‘natural’ does not always exactly mean being safe and effective. Herbal remedy preparations and dietary supplements for insomnia may still have severe side effects, but that is the exception to the rule.  If you are taking prescription medications, they could either interact or interfere, so it is not advisable to take them simultaneously.

Consult with your doctor regarding the possible undesirable effects and benefits of these alternative cures for insomnia before trying them. Remember that curing insomnia is unique to each individual. Although using natural sleeping pills is a safe and effective way to help to control your insomnia problem.
